West Ham co-chairman David Gold has revealed midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate could miss the next six weeks of action with a groin injury.
The Senegal international picked up the problem during Saturday’s impressive 3-1 home win over Liverpool although he was able to play the full 90 minutes.
Kouyate, 24, has been an ever-present in the Premier League for Sam Allardyce’s men this season after his arrival from Anderlecht in the summer on a four-year deal.
Gold tweeted: “Bad news. C.Kouyate will be out for 6 weeks. He will probably miss 5 games and might be available for Aston Villa at home 8 nov.”
West Ham travel to Manchester United on Saturday but Kouyate will play no part and he could also miss trips to Burnley and Stoke as well as home matches against Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City.
United are 1.32 to beat the Hammers (7.99) while the draw is 5.34 in the match betting market.
The Hammers have made a decent start to the 2014-15 Premier League season and currently sit in eight place with seven points picked up from their first five games.
Meanwhile, out-of-favour midfielder Ravel Morrison could be set for another loan spell in the Championship as Cardiff City have made an approach for the 21-year-old’s services.
Morrison spent the second half of last season at QPR and helped Harry Redknapp’s men secure promotion back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
However, he is on the periphery at Upton Park and a loan switch looks to be on the cards again.
