Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas is due to be handed £50million as the club looks to continue building momentum to challenge for the top four once again.

Spurs failed to secure Champions League football on the final day of last season due to north London rivals Arsenal picking up a 1-0 victory over Newcastle.

Despite the disappointment of having to once again settle for the Europa League, it has not been a summer of discontent for the White Hart Lane outfit who are looking to build a more competitive squad with more strength in depth.

Villas-Boas has already turned down the chance to part ways with the club after being approached by Ligue 1 side PSG while interest in Gareth Bale has been rejected by both the manager and chairman.

Los Blancos are reportedly prepared to hand over £85million for the Welsh winger, but the Premier League side see him as an integral part of the squad as they look to draft in fresh faces.

The Portuguese boss has been linked with Internacional striker Leandro Damiao, Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke and the Brazilian duo of Bernard and Paulinho.

Villas-Boas said: “We got so close but our rivals will do their job in the window. We will do our job the Tottenham way – scouting properly, looking for good grabs in the summer to make it a stronger squad. We have to continue to raise the bar.”
