Emerging reports indicate that Tottenham Hotspur is nearing a major signing in the form of Croatian sensation, Luka Vusković, from Hajduk Split. This 16-year-old prodigy has already been making waves in the football scene. Last season, he made eight remarkable appearances in Croatia’s premier division, which didn’t go unnoticed, drawing attention from several top European clubs.

According to renowned Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano: “Tottenham are on the verge of signing Croatian CB top talent Luka Vusković! After top project for his development, Vusković only wants Spurs — despite interest from 5 more top clubs. Personal terms agreed, clubs finalising paperwork.”

One of his significant accolades was aiding Hajduk in their Croatian Cup triumph. Adding to this impressive feat, he etched his name into Hajduk’s history books by becoming the youngest player ever to score for the club, achieving this milestone just days after celebrating his 16th birthday.

The race for Vusković’s signature wasn’t a lonely one for Tottenham. Premier League giants Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United had been vying for him. Manchester City too displayed keen interest in this young defender, particularly captivated by his leadership abilities. This was evident when Vusković, juggling between his senior team duties, led the Hajduk U19 team to the final showdown of the UEFA Youth League.

Under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham’s defense is undergoing a significant transformation. Vusković is anticipated to be the jewel in this revamped defense. This season has seen some fresh faces at Spurs. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, left-back Destiny Udogie, and central defender Micky Van de Ven have all made commendable first impressions in their debut Premier League stints. However, this also meant that seasoned stalwarts like Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier have remained on the sidelines so far.

This blend of youth and experience seems to be working wonders for Tottenham, as they’ve embarked on an unbeaten streak in the Premier League. This has pushed them up to a commendable second position in the early league table standings. After the international break, the team is gearing up to meet Sheffield United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 16.

The Evening Standard offers further insights into Vusković’s transition. He’s expected to stay with Hajduk until he celebrates his 18th birthday. After which, he will don the Spurs jersey in north London. Apart from the English clubs, European powerhouses such as Paris Saint-Germain had also reportedly considered bringing the Split-born defender into their fold.
