Italy manager Luciano Spalletti has called Bologna winger Riccardo Orsolini to replace the injured Matteo Politano.
The Napoli attacker pulled out of the Azzurri squad alongside Gianluca Mancini due to injuries.
FIGC, in a statement, said Orsolini has traveled to Milanello, where the Azzurri will be preparing for Tuesday’s key EURO 2024 qualifying fixture against Ukraine.

Italy are going into the clash on the back of a 1-1 draw against North Macedonia, while Ukraine also held England to a draw.
Napoli’s Politano was subbed off during the halftime break against North Macedonia on Saturday and has left Milanello alongside Roma defender Mancini, who also suffered a slight injury during the game.

26-year-old Orsolini has scored two goals in two games with the Azzurri but last played for the Euro 2020 winners in November 2020 against Estonia.

Sky Sport Italia also reported that the Bologna players may be one of many new faces against Ukraine on Tuesday as Spalletti plans to make more changes.

According to reports, the former Napoli manager could call-up for Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi and Gianluca Scamacca because Federico Chiesa and Lorenzo Pellegrini had earlier in the week pulled out of the squad have not been replaced yet.

Orsolini became the first, real, new face in the Spalletti era as all the players in the camp-up had been widely seen in action under Mancini.

Having played 63 minutes at a senior level with Italy, when he came off the bench in games against Armenia and Estonia, Orsolini still managed to leave his mark.

After being absent in the Azzurri squad for three years, it’s another opportunity for him.

Having reached double digits last season for Bologna with 11 goals in 32 Serie A games to his credit, the 26-year-old was surprisingly omitted from Mancini’s squad for the Nations League Final Four in June.
