David Moyes says the battle to win the Premier League title will go right to the wire after watching his Manchester United side beat Arsenal 1-0 on Sunday.

United were written off by many following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson coupled with a slow start to the season, but they are starting to find their feet under the leadership of Moyes.

Sunday’s win moves them to within five points of leaders Arsenal to cap a fine weekend after Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham all dropped points.

United cruised to the title last season under the leadership of Ferguson but Moyes says nobody will be doing that this time and is predicting a close battle.

“I don’t think anyone’s going to run away with it,” said Moyes. “I think there [will be] a lot of ups and downs. It’s a close-run league this year. There will be a few shocks.”

Moyes is delighted to see United finally on the up but is refusing to get carried away as there is still a long way to go.

“This is another step on the ladder,” he said. “We’re improving and getting better, and we hope it will get much, much better in the coming months and years.

“We have got a lot of big steps to take here and it is going to take me a while to get it all the way I want it to be.

“We are going to get a few bloody noses along the way but the league has shown that a few other clubs will be getting them as well.”
