Fabio Borini has rejected the notion Sunderland have a losing mentality but he admits they need to pick up a first Premier League win of the season as quickly as possible.

The Black Cats were beaten 2-0 at Bournemouth on Saturday and have managed just two points from their opening six games.

Borini, who moved to the Stadium of Light from Liverpool in the summer, remains convinced Sunderland will be able to put a run together and climb the table as soon as they can claim a first victory of the season in the league.

“We always have the winning mentality,” he told the Chronicle.

“I’m angry when we lose games and angry when we draw games. I always want to win.

“But it’s always hard to get the first win and after that, it’s easier.”

Next up for Sunderland is a tough trip to Manchester United and they are 13.00 to take all three points. A win for United is 1.22 and a draw is 6.00.

Sunderland are now bottom of the Premier League table following the latest round of fixtures but Borini remains unconcerned by their current league position.

He added: “We can’t look at the table yet and think we’re bottom. It’s a long season if you do that. We have to take it game by game and do the best we can.”

Sunderland host Manchester City in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday and they are 7.00 to come out on top or 41.00 to win 2-0.
