Tottenham look set to start the season without first choice goalkeeper Hugo Lloris after the Frenchman fractured his wrist.

The 28-year-old was one of the standout goalkeepers in the Premier League last term, prompting Manchester United to take an interest in him as they consider replacements for David de Gea.

Spurs are adamant Lloris is not for sale and his injury could be a blessing in disguise in the long run should it put the Red Devils off trying to sign the shot stopper.

The former Lyon goalkeeper is now a major doubt for the start of the new season, with Spurs 4.75 to win their opening game against Manchester United on August 8.

While Spurs have not disclosed how long Lloris will be out for reports indicate that he could be out of action for up to six weeks.

“The club can confirm that Hugo Lloris has sustained a fractured wrist during the close-season period,” a statement on Tottenham’s website announced.

“The France goalkeeper will continue to work alongside the first-team squad to build up his fitness in a bid to be ready for the start of the season.

“Our medical team will continue to monitor his rehabilitation and progress during pre-season.”

Spurs are currently on their pre-season tour of the United States and will take on an MLS All Stars team on July 30th as part of their build-up to the new campaign.

Should Lloris be unavailable for the start of the new season than Holland international Michel Vorm will step into the breach, as he did when Lloris sustained a head injury last term.

Vorm made four Premier League appearances between March and April in the absence of the France international.
