Blackburn Rovers have confirmed the ankle injury Jordan Rhodes suffered in last weekend’s pre-season friendly with Accrington Stanley is not as serious as first feared.

The Scotland international left the field on a stretcher after just half an hour of Saturday’s game at the Store First Stadium and he was spotted leaving the ground on crutches wearing a protective boot after the match.

Blackburn Rovers sent the 25-year-old for a scan on Monday and the results have shown the striker has not sustained any serious damaged, much to the relief of boss Gary Bowyer.

Blackburn expect the ankle injury to keep the former Huddersfield man out of action for between seven and 10 days, and have decided not to take him on the club’s pre-season tour of Portugal.

Bowyer is relying on Rhodes for the new campaign having lost Josh King to Bournemouth earlier in the summer, while doubts continue to surround the future of Rudy Gestede.

Gestede, who is wanted by several Premier League clubs, will also miss the tour of the Algarve meaning Rovers are taking just one fit senior striker, Chris Brown, to the warm weather training camp.

Bowyer is said to be working on adding to his attacking options, despite having his hands tied by a Financial Fair Play embargo which prevents him from spending any money on new signings.

Hugo Rodallega is said to be a target for Blackburn after he was released by Fulham but Turkish outfit Akhisar Belediyespor are the favourites to land the Colombian.

Meanwhile, Blackburn, who are 8.50 to be promoted this season, have rejected an offer from Brighton for Ben Marshall after the Seagulls tabled an offer of £1.5million.
