Barcelona Marc Bartra celebrates

Tottenham are being linked with Barcelona defender Marc Bartra who is said to be available for around £9million pounds this summer.

The 24-year-old has come through the youth ranks at the Nou Camp and made his debut back in 2010.

However, Bartra has failed to nail down a first-team place with the Catalan giants, with Gerard Pique and Javier Mascherano, the latter a midfielder by trade, forming a partnership that took Barca all the way to a second Treble last season.

In the past, full-back Adriano and defensive midfielder Alex Song have also been used at the back instead of Bartra who looks set to move on in search of regular football.

Despite his stalled club career, Bartra has still made five appearances for Spain and could be the sort of player Spurs boss and former Argentina centre-half Mauricio Pochettino wants to work with as he looks to break into the Premier League’s top four.

Bartra’s agent Javier Diaz told Sky Sports: “There is interest in Marc from England and other countries in Europe.

“This is normal, but I cannot speak about the clubs. He is happy at Barcelona but he wants to play more games and we will look at the options. He has a 12million euros release clause in his contract.”

The only downside for Spurs – if they are interested – is the fact Barcelona are currently working under a transfer embargo and so would not be able to draft in a replacement for Bartra, although his release clause could leave them powerless to stop his departure.

Spurs are 67.00 to win the Premier League next season.
