New Rangers boss Mark Warburton has warned fans he will not “rush things” as he looks to restore the club to the pinnacle of Scottish football.

The Ibrox outfit have turned to the former Brentford manager as they look to win promotion from the Scottish Championship next season.

Rangers have been forced to watch Old Firm rivals Celtic rule the roost for the last four years after they were relegated to the bottom league following massive financial problems.

The Gers have worked their way back up the leagues and now Warburton has been charged with winning their place back at the top table – the Scottish Premiership.

After being unveiled alongside new assistant boss, former Rangers captain David Weir, Warburton said: “Our job is to take the club in the right direction.

“It’s not rushing into things, it’s making firm foundations for the future of the club.

“Any competition Davie and I enter, we aim to go as far as we can. Our aim is to win the division, of course it is.

“Our job is to come in here, work with the squad, gel quickly and be very aggressive in terms of how we play the game and hopefully achieve our targets, which is promotion.”

Warburton and Weir have both signed three-year contracts at Ibrox and must rebuild a squad hit by the recent release of 11 senior players.

“I realise it is quite lean,” added Warburton. “Our job is to bring suggestions to the table that add value to the club on and off the pitch.”
