Manchester City have been boosted by the news David Silva is closing in on a return to action and could figure against Bayern Munich next week.

The influential Spanish playmaker has been on the sidelines for a month after picking up a groin injury but boss Manuel Pellegrini says he is now close to fitness.

The Premier League clash against Aston Villa this weekend is likely to come to soon for Silva but there is every chance he could be back for the Champions League clash with current holders Bayern Munich.

“We will see the next day what happens with David ,” said Pellegrini.

“The doctor can say better than me what will happen. I don’t think he can play on Saturday but maybe for the next game of the Champions League, I think he could be fit.”

City kicked off their Champions League campaign with an impressive 3-0 win away at Viktoria Plzen and will look to build on the result against Bayern at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday.

City are on a great run of form having crushed arch rivals Manchester United 4-1 at the weekend, while they also put five past Wigan Athletic in the Capital One cup last night.

However, with a hectic schedule on the cards Pellegrini wants as many options as possible and Silva’s return is a boost.
