New Roma signing Steven Nzonzi says his objective after joining the club is to ‘win trophies’.

The 29-year-old completed his move to the Stadio Olimpico from Sevilla on Tuesday in a €26.65million deal that could rise above the €30million mark with add-ons.

The defensive midfielder has put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Giallorossi and he has already set about endearing himself to the club’s fans by revealing he is intent on winning trophies during his time in Rome.

“I am very happy and satisfied with being here at Roma,” he told Roma TV.

“I realised Roma wanted to buy me and that alone was very pleasing, because this is a great club.

I always want to learn and improve, that is the most important thing for me.

“The objective is to win trophies. We work hard and will do our best to achieve that. I thank the fans for welcoming me at the airport and promise to give my all. I hope to become important for Roma.”

Nzonzi certainly knows what it takes to win trophies, as he was part of the France squad that claimed overall glory at this summer’s World Cup, featuring in five of Les Bleus’ matches, including a substitute appearance in the final.

The former Blackburn and Stoke star could make his Roma debut in their Serie A opener against Torino at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino on Sunday, Eusebio Di Francesco’s side are priced at 2.10 to win that contest, while Torino are available at 3.40 and the draw is on offer at 3.50.
