Juventus FC got back to winning ways when they defeated 10 man Hellas Verona 2-1 at the Juventus Stadium. This matchday 4 fixture was played on Saturday 21st of September, 2019.

The old lady went into the match having come off draws against ACF Fiorentina in the league last week and Atletico Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday 18th September. Returnee goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon made a winning return to the starting 11 of the home team as the 41-year-old made his 902nd appearance in club football.

Newly-promoted side Verona was out to spoil the party when the away side won a penalty in the 18th minute. Juventus defender Merih Demiral brought down Verona striker Samuel Di Carmine.

Samuel got up to take the resulting penalty only to hit the post and leaves the scores at 0-0. However, in the 20th minute, the visitors took the lead through midfielder Miguel Veloso who rifled home a spectacular volley.

The lead did not last too long. New recruit Aaron Ramsey who signed on a free transfer Arsenal FC restored parity in the 31st minute with a spectacular goal of his own a shot from distance that beat the visitors’ goalkeeper.

This was the Welshman’s first appearance for the Bianconeri this season. The visitors continued to resist the home side until the 49th when Juventus were awarded a penalty. That’s when Verona Defender Koray Günter pushed down Juan Cuadrado in the 18-yard box. Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo duly stepped up and put the ball away to put the home side 2-1 ahead.

The visitors still kept on trying and could possibly have equalised if not for the Heroics of Buffon Who kept out Darko Lazovic’s shot in the 89th minute. There was still time for the away side to go a man down when Marash Kumbulla received his marching orders for a foul on Blaise Matuidi deep into injury time.

The win leaves Maurizio Sarri’s men second on the log with 10 points from four games. Verona remains in mid-table placed in the 12th position with three points from four games.

The Italian giants are backed at 1.41, while Brescia Calcio are priced at 7.99 to win in their next fixture.
