Latest reports indicate that Barcelona is interested in signing Milan’s Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessie.

Kessie has been at the San Siro for five years but is currently on the tail of his contract with the team but no agreement has been reached yet by both the club and the player on a new contract.

The 25-year old could be tempted with the opportunity to play at the Camp Nou in a rejuvenated Barcelona side that has won three matches on the bounce. The team has had to aggressively recruit during the January transfer window.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang joined from Arsenal while Adama Traore also moved in from Wolves. Both players have been impressive under Xavi with the Gabonese forward recording 5 goals in three matches while Traore has four assists in as many games.

Meanwhile, Xavi is ready to play Kessie in a different role compared to what he does at the San Siro. The financial situation at Barcelona could also prove to be a stumbling block for the deal.

The Ivorian has played twenty Seria A games this season with five goals although he did 13 goals in 37 games last season. He has also featured in five UEFA Champions League games for the team.

Barcelona is in the fourth position on the table with 45 points from 25 matches played having won their last La Liga match in an emphatic 4-0 victory over Athletic club where Aubameyang, Dembele, De Jong, and Memphis Depay were on target.

Xavi’s side is level on point with Atletico Madrid in fifth while they are a point behind third-placed Real Betis and nine behind second-placed Sevilla. Barcelona will play Elche before facing Turkish side Galatasaray in the Uefa Europa League. Barcelona will then face Osasuna, Galatasaray in the second leg of the Europa League tie before the next El Clasico on the 20th of March.
