Glasgow Celtic’s magnificent run in the Scottish Premiership continued on Wednesday when they visited Motherwell, who had high hopes in challenging the Glasgow teams this season.

Motherwell is still third in the league, but already 19 points behind second placed Rangers and 26 points behind Celtic. After losing to Celtic, their hopes for putting up any sort of challenge are gone and they can concentrate on keeping the third spot. Celtic, on the other hand, are strolling. After losing to Rangers to finish the last year, Celtic has now won five in a row and kept a clean sheet three times in addition to scoring a hefty 17 goals during that stretch. It took some time for Celtic to break Motherwell, but final score 0-4 left nothing in question.

The score line does flatter the visitors a bit. The hosts were more active in the first half, threatening Celtic on numerous occasions. However, it was Celtic who drew first blood. The sensational French striker Odsonne Edouard found the net on the ninth minute and set the pace for the rest of the game. The additional goals came a lot later though, with Leigh Griffiths hitting the net to start the second half and Callum McGregor taking the visitors three goals up on 75 minute. Edouard then hammered in the final nail on 80th minute with his second of the night and 20th of the season in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic retained their lead on top of the league, with Rangers chasing seven points behind and a game in hand. The Hoops narrowly beat Hibernian 2-1 to stay within range of their arch rivals. The scoring race of the league is also fought between the two Glasgow clubs, as Jermain Defoe has 13 goals to his name and Alfredo Morelo is challenging as well with 12. Celtic’s Odsonne Edouard has a comfortable lead though, with his 20 goals.

Next up for Celtic is a visit to Clyde in Scottish Cup on the 9th of February and the Scottish Premiership action continues with a visit by struggling Hearts on the 12th. Don’t miss out on Dafabet’s Celtic FC Prediction Challenge in order to win free weekly bets.
