Liverpool have bolstered their squad on transfer deadline day with the capture of defenders Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori.

The Reds have got the season off to a tremendous start after Sunday’s 1-0 win over Manchester United made it three wins on the bounce without a goal conceded.

However, boss Brendan Rodgers will not rest on his laurels and is keen to ensure he has a squad strong enough to stay in the top four and qualify for the Champions League.

Sakho, who arrives from Paris Saint-Germain for an undisclosed fee, also has 14 caps for France and will prove to be very versatile as he can play either in central defence or at left-back.

The 23-year-old says he cannot wait to get started and is predicting a bright future for the Reds.

“I’m delighted to be here,” he told Liverpool‘s website. “I’d like to thank everyone for the welcome.

“I came here because the project that is in place at Liverpool interests me. I’m really looking forward to playing my first game.”

Meanwhile, Ilori arrives from Sporting Lisbon for a fee in the region of £4million and becomes Rodgers’s seventh signing of the summer.

Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, Simon Mignolet and Aly Cissokho have also arrived at the club and there could be room for one more.

Reports claim Liverpool are closing in on a season-long loan move for Chelsea forward Victor Moses.
