Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino believes Fernando Llorente’s winning mentality can help the club move to the next level in their quest for Premier League glory.
Spurs have seriously challenged for the league title in the past two seasons, finishing third in the 2015/16 campaign after slipping away in the latter stages before taking second spot last time out behind rivals Chelsea.
Many expected the Lilywhites to strengthen their ranks significantly this summer and, despite leaving it until the last minute, the club were able to add five new faces to the squad.
Three defenders were signed in the shape of Davinson Sanchez, Serge Aurier and Juan Foyth while goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga arrived and Llorente also made the switch from Swansea City for a reported £12million.
The Spain international brings great experience to Spurs, having won the World Cup and European Championship, as well as the Europa League at Sevilla and three Serie A titles with Juventus.
Pochettino believes the 32-year-old can provide that extra edge required this season to go all the way in the Premier League while also aiding their cause in Europe.
“First of all he’s a great professional. He’s a world champion – he won the World Cup with Spain – and that is the mentality that can translate to us with the experience of winning big things,” Pochettino said.
“It’s not easy to have the facility to sign players like Llorente. It was an amazing chance for us and I think it’s fantastic he decided to sign for us.”
Spurs return to action on Saturday when they travel to Everton and the visitors are 2.10 favourites to win.
The draw is priced at 3.30 while the Toffees are 3.60 outsiders despite being at home.
