Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says he doesn’t know if Romelu Lukaku will still be at Manchester United
when the summer transfer window closes, telling reporters “you guys will know something next week”.

Belgium international Lukaku, who joined United in July 2017 for an initial £75million, has been linked with an exit from Old Trafford this summer after becoming frustrated with life at the 20-time English champions.

Serie A giants Inter Milan have been in talks over a deal for over a week now but the Nerazzurri have been told by the Red Devils they will have to pay more than £79m to sign the striker. The 26-year-old, who has scored 28 Premier League goals during his time in Manchester, missed Saturday’s 2-0 pre-season win over Perth Glory after picking up a minor injury.

Norwegian tactician Solskjaer has revealed Lukaku is expected to be fit for Wednesday’s game against Championship outfit Leeds United at the Optus Stadium in Perth. However, when quizzed about the Belgian’s future at United, the manager was less convincing.

“Let’s see when the season starts,” Solskjaer told reporters after the pre-season win over Perth Glory. “We have not had any bids that we are considering. “All my conversations with the players I will keep confidential. That’s between us. That’s my privilege and I can promise them that I won’t tell (about) our discussions.”

United, who are 21.00 to win the Premier League this season, begin their season with a mouth-watering home clash against Chelsea, who are now managed by Frank Lampard. The Red Devils are 2.20 favourites to pick up the win, a draw is priced at 3.40 while the Blues – who are also 21.00 to win the title – are a 3.30 chance to claim the spoils.
