France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris insists midfielder Paul Pogba is still “one of the best players in the world” despite his “complicated” situation at Manchester United.

The former Juventus star has been heavily criticised this season for a lack of form although he has struggled with his fitness levels.

United boss Jose Mourinho has left him out of his starting XI for the last three games and his form is a worry going into the World Cup in Russia this summer.

Pogba was still included in Didier Deschamps’ 25-man squad for the friendlies with Colombia and Russia, and Lloris is confident the international break could help the midfielder recapture his best form.

The Spurs keeper told reporters: “Paul stays a strong player in our team, he is one of our leaders.

This season is a little bit complicated but he was injured, so that could explain why he was not consistent all the time.

“But he already proved with Manchester or France that he is one of the best players in the world if he is at 100 per cent.

Now he is more mature. He knows his place, his responsibilities. I have no doubt that he will be ready for this huge competition and show his best side.”

Les Blues have been drawn in Group C this summer and will take on Australia, Denmark and Peru.

Deschamps’ side are one of the favourites for the tournament and can be backed at odds of 6.50 to go all the way.
