Adam Lallana has challenged Liverpool to take the “next step” by winning a trophy and challenging for Premier League glory this season.

The Reds are yet to win silverware under Jurgen Klopp although they have reached the final of the Champions League, Europa League and EFL Cup during his time in charge, while they have also claimed a top-four finish in the Premier League in each of the last two years.

Klopp has spent heavily during the summer to help Liverpool’s chances of winning a major trophy, with more than £170million invested to bring in the likes of Alisson, Xherdan Shaqiri, Naby Keïta and Fabinho.

England international Lallana has been impressed by the new arrivals at Anfield and believes the time is right for Liverpool to take the “next step” by winning trophies and mounting a serious Premier League challenge.

“It’s a really exciting time,” said Lallana. “I’m delighted to be at a top club like Liverpool that are going to be challenging for trophies again and I’m looking forward to playing for England again.

“For my club, I just want to take the next step now. We’ve been in a few finals that we haven’t been victorious in and that needs to change.

“We’ve got all the ingredients there, the experience we’ve gained and the squad we’ve put together, the signs are really good for us to go the next step.”

Liverpool have not won a major trophy since 2012, while they haven’t been crowned champions of England since 1990. They are priced at 5.00 to win the Premier League title this term.
