Frank Lampard would love to get his hands on a trophy as Chelsea boss by beating Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul.

The Blues boss would also be banishing some of his own memories of the showpiece game, having lost this match twice as a player with Chelsea.

Just days after his first league match in charge ended in a galling 4-0 defeat at Manchester United at Old Trafford, the Blue’s all-time top scorer will attempt to mastermind victory in Istanbul against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Chelsea won the Europa League by defeating Arsenal in Baku under Maurizio Sarri last season and Lampard would love to add the scalp of another Premier League rival.

His own experiences weren’t good but the ex-midfielder will use them as motivation and feels victory could really help Chelsea kick on domestically.

“It means a lot to the club. I know first-hand because we lost two!” said Lampard. “We lost to Atletico Madrid in poor circumstances (in 2012) and we were far, far off and gave them the Super Cup.

“We were unfortunate to lose to Bayern Munich (in 2013). When you work hard to get into this game between two champions, it is important that at a club like Chelsea, we give everything to win it. “It does mean something. It means something to us as a club because it is another trophy.

“And for me it would be a really nice start for me personally, but more than that a really good feeling for the players with the season coming up, that we can compete with Liverpool.”

Chelsea are 5.25 to win in Istanbul. Liverpool are hefty favourites at 1.67 and the draw is 4.00.
