Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has hinged that newly signed midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu may go on loan in order to fully assess his abilities after the 20-year-old joined the Blues from Stade Rennes.

Lesley signed a seven-year contract with the Blues with an option to extend for a further year after featuring 47 times in Ligue 1 for Rennes in 2022-23. The 19-year-old has played at the youth levels for the French underaged sides but is yet to make a national team debut.

Chelsea paid 27m euros (£23.2m) to sign the midfielder from Rennes, but it is more likely for him to return to France with Strasbourg on loan as Pochettino struggled to decide on his future.

“We need to assess him when he starts training today and then in London after the tour. He’s a young, talented player. Now is the time to assess him until the end of the transfer window and see if he is going to be with us, or maybe it can be a possibility to loan him. No, I am not disappointed because when we joined, we knew we would find this situation. I am happy with the way the club is working. Of course, we are working hard to try to finish the squad as soon as possible.” Pochettino said.

Mauricio Pochettino has been demanding more experienced signings into the team, and the Blues have continued to chase Moses Caicedo, who Brighton has rejected an £80M offer.

The Argentine coach has revealed that he is satisfied and happy with Chelsea’s recruitment process this summer, and it’s not hard to see why.

Chelsea have cleared a bloated squad caused by £600m transfer activities in the last two transfer windows, with players like Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic, and Mason Mount joining Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United, respectively.
The likes of N’Golo Kante, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Edouard Mendy have all gone to the Saudi Pro League.
