Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina will be at Anfield next season, his agent has confirmed.

The Spain international was shipped out on loan to Serie A side Napoli last season after the Reds signed Simon Mignolet from Sunderland and installed him as their number one.

It was a dramatic fall from grace for Reina who himself had usurped Champions League winner Jerzy Dudek between the posts for the 2005/06 season.

The 31-year-old then went on to cement his place in Liverpool’s XI for the next eight campaigns before he joined the Partenopei – managed by former Reds boss Rafael Benitez- last summer.

Reina enjoyed success at the Stadio San Paolo last term by helping the side secure Champions League football via a third-place finish in Serie A while Napoli also won the Coppa Italia after beating Fiorentina 3-1 in May.

However, the former Villarreal star’s Italian adventure appears to be over as Napoli cannot afford to sign him permanently while Liverpool need experienced cover after securing their own return to the Champions League.

His agent, Manuel Garcia Quillon, told Tuttonapoli.it: “I know rumours are circulating about Reina’s future. But I can confirm that next season Pepe will play for Liverpool.

“Reina will respect his deal with the English side.”

Reina has two years remaining on six-year contract he signed in April 2010.
