Arsenal forward Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain insists that his team-mates are happy to be classed as the underdogs in the race for the Premier League title.

The Gunners have topped the standings for the majority of the season, but they are currently third favourites to win the title, with Manchester City and Chelsea ahead of them in the betting.

Arsene Wenger’s side currently lead City by one point, with Jose Mourinho’s team just a point further back. Oxlade-Chamberlain admits his side are desperate to prove the doubters wrong, and in doing so end a nine-year wait for silverware.

He told the club’s official website: “When people are doubting you or saying you’re not capable of doing something, it gives you that motivation to prove them wrong.

“At the same time, when you aren’t favourites you can go about your work quietly – and the most important thing is that we know what we need to do to finish where we want to finish. That’s the only thing that matters.

“The manager, the coaching staff and as a group of players, we all know what needs to be done – to keep winning games consistently. As long as we keep that togetherness and that belief in ourselves, it is up to us how well we do this year.”

City with their experience are 2.00 to lift the Premier League trophy, but the Gunners should feel aggrieved to be behind Chelsea with odds.
