Reports from Italy say that Napoli have been linked with Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Emre Can and Udinese to sign Lazar Samardzic.
This shows that the Serie A champions are planning to bolster their midfield in the coming winter transfer window and have started considering a move for Can.
The German is highly experienced and is expected to inject massive input into their midfield should they be able to sign him.
Having already sold Eljif Elmas to RB Leipzig and will be without Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa for the fast-approaching Africa Cup of Nations, the Partenopei will have few options in midfield, thereby reducing Walter Mazzarri’s options.
Napoli have also identified their top target in Samardzic as they are looking around for another suitable reinforcement as they look to fight for a top-four finish.
According to pages 18 to 21 of today’s Corriere dello Sport, Napoli have started to make a move for Can in the coming transfer window, despite the fact that the Borussia Dortmund midfielder doesn’t particularly fit their usual profile.
It reported that the 29-year-old would cost around €20m and has a salary of around €4m net per season. This is seen as a risk from Aurelio De Laurentiis’ club, who are usually unwilling to invest too much in an older player.
Emre Can already has Serie A experience. He had 18 months with Juventus from July 2018 to January 2020, scoring four goals and providing one assist across 45 total appearances.
In a related development, Napoli have intensified talks with Udinese to sign Samardzic.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Partenopei are also monitoring Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu and Jakub Kiwior.
The reason for making Samardzic their primary target was to boost Walter Mazzarri’s options in the middle of the park following Elmas’ move to RB Leipzig.
