Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of promising Brazilian prospect Lucas Beraldo from Sao Paulo FC.
The Paris club, in a statement, revealed that the center-back had put pen to paper over a five-year deal.
Beraldo, a U20 Brazil footballer will wear the #35 jersey for PSG, and his transfer fee is expected to be about €20m.
This is believed to have heightened competition at the back as the Ligue 1 champions were in the market for a young left-footed center-back after Presnel Kimpembe sustained an injury.
The French player is expected to be out the season after sustaining a serious Achilles injury last year.
PSG had Leeds United’s Pascal Struijk on their radar, but Beraldo’s arrival also means heightened competition for a berth at the back of Luis Enrique’s set-up. This is considering Milan Skriniar has not been entirely convinced so far on the back of his free transfer from Inter.
Reacting to the development, he expressed delight at joining a club as ambitious as Paris Saint-Germain, adding that it’s an important step in his career that will help him progress.
“I can’t wait to get to know my new teammates and to take my first steps in this shirt.”
In a related development, Gabriel Moscardo failed a medical as he aimed to confirm his move from Corinthians to Paris Saint-Germain.
This according to reports, this is not at risk, as his medical revealed a foot issue that will require surgery and entail a lengthy absence.
The announcement was expected to be announced with Beraldo’s.
L’Équipe revealed that Moscardo arrived in Paris, alongside Beraldo, on Friday to undergo his medical ahead of a €20m move to PSG.
However, a foot injury was detected during the medical, and Moscardo has taken to social media to confirm that he will undergo an operation on his left foot, which will see him ruled out for three months.
Fabrizio Romano revealed that more talks will take place this week ahead of the finalization of the transfer.
The next schedule of the Ligue 1 champions is a clash against French cup winners Toulouse on Wednesday for the Trophée des Champions at the Parc des Princes.
