Napoli reportedly lined up a replacement for Piotr Zielinski, whose move to Inter was confirmed on Monday.
The Serie A champions are beginning to think about their movements in the summer transfer window. The Partenopei would like one of two midfielders already playing in Serie A to replace him.
According to recent reports, Napoli’s first choice remains Lazar Samardzic.
Calciomercato.com reported that Napoli made severe attempts to bring Samardzic to the Stadio Maradona towards the end of the January transfer window but could not get a deal with Udinese over the line.
The 21-year-old midfielder destructive also reportedly talked with Juventus about a potential move in the summer. His father, also one of his representatives, was in attendance at the Allianz Stadium for Udinese’s 1-0 win over the Old Lady on Monday night.
Should Napoli fail to land Samardzic, the second choice is Scotland international and Bologna midfielder Lewis Ferguson.
Napoli will reportedly need to pay a minimum of € 18 m to € 20 m to sign Ferguson permanently from Bologna.
Calciomercato’s latest updates say Napoli could also return to the Dall’Ara to sign Bologna defender Sam Beukema. The Serie A champions also admired the defender and, as the Naples recruitment team, didn’t mind signing him this summer.
Meanwhile, Napoli will have Victor Osimhen back in Naples by the end of this week following his run to the Africa Cup of Nations final with Nigeria over the last month.
Whether he will be involved in Serie A action this weekend remains to be seen.
Osimhen and Nigeria were beaten 2-1 by hosts Ivory Coast in Sunday’s AFCON final in Abidjan.
After emerging runners-up, Osimhen will be back in Naples between this Friday and Saturday. It could be too soon to have him back, given that Napoli is in action against Genoa on Saturday afternoon at 14.00 GMT.
It is unlikely that Osimhen will be involved if he arrives in Italy on the same day, as there will probably not be an opportunity to train with the team heading into the Genoa match.
The striker had already played 200 minutes between the final and semi-final and had been taken off with a slight injury concern at the end of the quarters.
The delight for the Pertonopei is that there are no new concerns over Osimhen’s fitness.
Walter Mazzarri could be left with the option of waiting until Barcelona’s visit in the Champions League next Wednesday to bring Osimhen back into the fold.
