Liverpool have been dealt with a significant injury blow after it was confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold will miss the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea. The Carabao Cup final will come up on February 25 at Wembley as both teams aim to win the first trophy of the year.
Aside from Arnold’s absence from the final, Jurgen Klopp will hope he can become fit in time for a Premier League clash against Man City on March 10. The Reds started February with a 3-1 loss to Arsenal at Emirates but bounced back with a win against Burnley with the same scoreline last weekend.
The hosts will travel to Brentford in the Premier League’s early kickoff this weekend and a midweek Premier League tie at home to Luton Town next week before the Carabao Cup final.
However, last weekend’s win over Burnley was overshadowed by the substitution of Arnold at halftime in the 3-1 victory at Anfield. Jurgen Klopp gave an update after the match, saying the substitution was a precaution until a scan of the England international’s knee showed otherwise.
“Yeah, he felt it. He stuck it in the grass, and we had to do an assessment. Same area in the knee. Nothing really bad, but he felt it again and we have to see, we have to assess it. Trent said it’s fine, but it’s not fine [because] he feels it, so we had to be careful and take him off.” Klopp mentioned this in separate interviews.
Meanwhile, the seriousness of the injury means that he remains doubtful for the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Southampton, Premier League clashes against Nottingham Forest, and title-rival Man City in March.
Dominik Szoboszlai is another fitness doubt for the cup final for the Reds with a hamstring issue. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will hope his side does not have more injuries when they play against Brentford this weekend.
