New manager David Moyes is expecting Manchester United to prove doubters wrong – starting on Monday at Old Trafford against Chelsea.
There has been a lot of negative publicity surrounding the club following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and matters have not been helped by a lack of new signings and the Wayne Rooney fall-out.
Even a 4-1 demolition of Swansea on the opening day of the season could not keep the critics at bay and Moyes says the champions will do what they have always done, rise to the occasion and prove them wrong.
“We are getting written off quite often,” said the Scot.
“In the main, when that is the case, this club tends to say ‘we’ll show you’.
“It is in my nature. It was definitely in the previous manager’s nature. And the supporters here understand that as well.”
Man United‘s big-spending local rivals Manchester City slipped up when losing 3-2 to Cardiff City on Sunday and that gives Monday’s hosts or Chelsea the chance to stamp their authority on the league early in the season.
Chelsea are many pundits’ favourites to win the Premier League this season following the return of Mourinho and Monday’s game will give some early clues as to who has got what it takes to win the title.
