Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho revealed that he will be launched a third attempt to sign Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney but he will wait until after two sides meet on Monday night.

Rooney has already been the subject of two bids from the west London club, with the latest understood to be £25million plus add-ons.

The Red Devils have been quick to reject both offers with David Moyes insisting that the England forward is not for sale and unavailable at any price.

However, Rooney has made it clear that he is keen to leave Old Trafford this summer although he has not specified a club that he would like to join.

Mourinho revealed in July that the former Everton front man is his only transfer target but he then claimed if he fails to secure his services then he does have some options lined up instead.

The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan boss believes it would be unethical to pursue the 27-year-old in the build-up to the league fixture as both teams look to continue their 100% starts to the campaign.

Mourinho said: “I don’t want Chelsea to do it before we go there.

“I think this period, by the ethical point of view, is a period where we’re going to be quiet.

“We have plans B and C. Don’t ask me names. It’s difficult to speak about players from other clubs.

“We have the conditions to try to improve our team by bringing in one more player and we are going to try that till the end.”
