AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho has expressed surprise over his team’s defeat in the Europa League opener against Bulgaria side Ludogorets.
The Special one, in an interview after the game, pointed out that his team had the scoring opportunities.
Not worried by his team’s performance, the manager said at least it’s a group phase, and there are five more games to recover.
Roma has conceded six goals in their last two games. The Rome club went into the game on the back 4-0 defeat to Udinese in Serie A last weekend. Ludogorets added to their trouble with another result in Bulgaria.
Admitting that Roma we’re not fantastic on the night, the former Manchester United coach said it seemed more than sufficient to avoid defeat.
Mourinho also told Sky Sport Italia that his side had the scoring opportunities.
After a flurry of Roma attacks, it was Ludogorets who took the lead when Cauly cut inside from the right, and a run by Igor Thiago created a canyon through the centre of the Roma defence to sweep in past Svilar relatively undisturbed.
He almost made it two few minutes late, but his header went jusPellegrini crosst wide.
After several efforts from Roma to equality, substitute Eldor Shomurodov came off the bench and equalised, using his head to simply guide the Pellegrini cross from the by-line in.
Ludogorets, however, restored their advantage moments later through substitute Nonato. His little shimmy sent Roger Ibanez to the ground and created the gap for the angled drive.
The hosts held on to the lead to secure maximum points against the Europa Conference winners.
