Unai Emery is calling on Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil to provide more of a goal threat for his team.

The Spaniard is continuing to search for the best way to use the Germany playmaker since he took over from Arsene Wenger in the summer.

An illness caused Ozil to drop out of the Arsenal team that defeated West Ham at the Emirates last month, also fuelling rumours of a rift between the ex-Real Madrid man and his new manager.

Ozil was back in the team for the 3-2 win over Cardiff before the international break and Emery has been outlining what he wants from the 29-year-old ahead of this weekend’s trip to Newcastle.

“I want to find with him the possibility to do the best, to make decisive passes, to do more near and in the box to score,” said the Gunners boss.

Emery suggests both he and Ozil are happy with his overall contribution, though they share a desire to get more from him.

He added: “I think he is working for the team to help us with his quality. But he is feeling like I am feeling. He can improve, he can do more.

“In this process, we will work, we will help him, give him the possibility on the pitch to be together, to find his qualities for us.”

Arsenal are 1.91 to win at Newcastle on Saturday. The Magpies are 4.00 while the draw is 3.75. Ozil can be backed at 10.00 to net the opening goal at St James’ Park.
