Lionel Messi’s father came to his rescue to brush off claims regarding former’s physical condition.

Jorge Horacio Messi denied on Wednesday that he told anyone his son was unfit to play for Barcelona in their first-leg clash with Bayern Munich ion the Champions League.

The younger Messi’s agent, Josep Maria Minguella earlier claimed that the father claimed Lionel was not in perfect shape to start at the Allianz Arena where Bayern crushed Barca 4-0.

Lionel Messi has made just one substitute appearance for the Blaugrana since sustaining a hamstring injury against Paris Saint-Germain at the start of the month.

“I never said that Leo was not in condition to play, and there are people who were with me and they know it,” the player’s father told Ole. “They asked me how he was and I said: ‘In my opinion, he’s fine’. The routine [medical] exams had gone well. “I expected him to play, and I said exactly that.”

Messi, 25, admitted later on that he was not “100 percent comfortable” but asserted he had been ready to play.
