Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino admits he is still hurt that his side failed to finish above north London rivals Arsenal in the Premier League last season.

Spurs appeared to be in prime position to finish at least second in the standings with just four matches of the campaign to play, but they saw their title chances disappear following back-to-back draws with West Brom and Chelsea.

Despite those setbacks, Pochettino’s men still needed just one point from their final two league games to finish above the Gunners for the first time since 1995, but successive defeats to Southampton and Newcastle meant they eventually finished below their neighbours.

The two sides are now set to go head-to-head for the first time this term at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday and Pochettino concedes that he is still devastated by last season’s poor finish. “I still feel bad about last season,” Pochettino told reporters.

“It was so easy to be above Arsenal in that moment. It’s true that we felt very disappointed after the Chelsea game but with two games ahead and only one point (needed) to be above them, that was very frustrating and disappointing.”

The Argentine coach is however keen to rectify the wrongs of last season and he is confident his side can finish above Arsenal come the end of the campaign.

He added: “It was difficult to not think about that situation. But we have another opportunity now and we will see what happens.”

Spurs have failed to win any of their last six matches in all competitions, but they are priced at 4.20 to end that winless run on Sunday, while Arsenal are available at 1.95 and the draw is on offer at 3.50.
