Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has confirmed he will use a 4-3-3 formation during the upcoming campaign.
The Dutchman was criticised for constantly tinkering with his tactics in his first year at Old Trafford but despite never truly settling on the shape of his side, he eventually guided United to fourth.
However, he now seems to have found the answer, using 4-3-3 throughout the recent tour of America.
Midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin have both arrived at Old Trafford, as has Memphis Depay who, after spending most of his career out wide, has been used in a more central role over the summer.
Having qualified for the Champions League last term, much is expected of the Red Devils this season with them being tipped for a potential run at the title.
After impressing while on tour in America, Van Gaal has confirmed his side will continue to use a 4-3-3, admitting he was pleased with the way they played in the states.
“More or less 4-3-3,” he told the club’s official website. “We played that already last season, in the second half of the season, and I have said that is the system I want to use.
“We played in our shape [on tour] and played how we have to play.
That’s also where I have been very satisfied.”
United begin their campaign at home to Tottenham, a game they are priced at 1.60 to win, with the draw at 4.00 and Spurs on offer at 5.25.
A good start could set them on their way to a genuine title challenge, with them currently at 6.00 to top the Premier League standings.
