News that captain Nemanja Vidic will leave Manchester United at the end of the season could be the start of an exodus from the club as David Moyes rebuilds the Red Devils.

Vidic released a statement on Thursday evening to end any speculation about his future and the 32-year-old will bring the curtain down on his seven-year stay at Old Trafford in May.

The former Serbia international moved to the Theatre of Dreams in 2006 and has made more than 200 Premier League appearances, winning 15 trophies during his time at the club.

The defender made it clear that he will not play for another English side and will look to “challenge” himself overseas, but the task now for Moyes will be to find a replacement and many more new players besides.

Stars such as Nani, Rio Ferdinand, Javier Hernandez and Shinji Kagawa could all be surplus to requirements in a few months’ time and may also head through the exit door.

Juan Mata’s arrival in January is set to be the first of many new faces at the club as the former Everton chief has promised an overhaul of the playing staff in the summer.

It has been a poor season for the Premier League champions to date and they are struggling to qualify for next season’s Champions League, and failure to finish in the top four might have an influence on the standard of players that the Scot can recruit.

Meanwhile, Anderson has now backtracked on comments he allegedly made that a number of United stars want to leave at the end of the campaign, but it appears inevitable there will be an exodus as Moyes attempts to fashion a new side to get the club back to where it belongs.
