Manchester United have begun the search for a new manager with Holland coach Louis van Gaal said to be their preferred choice to replace David Moyes.

Moyes was axed earlier in the week following a disastrous short spell in charge of the Premier League champions and the hunt is now on to find a manager capable of bringing glory back to Old Trafford.

Van Gaal is leading the way and could take charge when the World Cup in Brazil is over, but United are exploring all options and there is more than one name on the list of possible targets.

Ryan Giggs has been placed in temporary charge until the end of the season so the pressure is off but United will want to get their new man on board in time for a busy summer of squad rebuilding.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is a name in the frame but their former president Ramon Calderon is convinced the Italian will stay in Spain.

“I believe Carlo Ancelotti will be with Real Madrid next season. He’s got a contract. We don’t know what’s happening with Manchester United,” he said.

“It’s always a pity when you have to sack a coach. I had that problem with Fabio Capello. Sometimes you have to take those decisions, though. Manchester United’s results have not been normal so it’s a decision they had to take.”

Meanwhile Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has also ruled himself out of the running even though he says United have yet to make an approach.

“I find it a little uncomfortable having to turn somebody down without them even making an enquiry,” said the 46-year-old. “But it seems like I have got to do it anyway.

“There are about 1,000 reasons why I am so happy to be working at this club.”
