Luke Shaw has backed Manchester United team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic to rediscover his form and fire the club to glory.
The enigmatic Swede arrived in the summer on a free transfer but after a lightning quick start, has netted just once in his last 10 games.
Ibrahimovic was especially profligate in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Burnley, missing a host of chances as the Red Devils’ recent poor run was extended to four games without a victory in the Premier League.
United’s recent form has put extra pressure on boss Jose Mourinho and he may now be considering dropping some of his big names for Sunday’s trip to Swansea.
Before that Mourinho’s men face Fenerbahce in the Europa League and the Portuguese boss could opt to rest the 35-year-old in a bid to help him recharge his batteries. United are 2.20 to win in Istanbul on Thursday, with the draw 3.30 and Fenerbahce priced at 3.25.
Shaw himself has come if for criticism for his inconsistent form at times this season, as he continues to find his fitness following the horrific leg injury he suffered last term.
The England man is adamant that it is only a matter of time before Ibrahimovic rediscovers the rhythm he showed earlier in the campaign, as he says the veteran is simply too good to continue to struggle.
“He’s a world-class player and I wouldn’t say it’s a dip, I think he’s been unlucky,” Shaw is quoted as saying by ITV.
“He’s had chances, but the saves that have been happening from his shots are unbelievable, especially that volley he did at the weekend, with Heats (Tom Heaton) saving that. “Of course he’s a very confident person and his confidence is always sky-high.”
