Gylfi Sigurdsson says Swansea must avoid panicking following their poor start and look to the lessons they learned from being in a simiialr situation last term.

The Swans’ only win so far this season came on the opening day at Burnley and Monday’s 3-1 defeat at Stoke means they remain 19th in the standings, with only Sunderland below them in the table.

With them five points adrift of fourth-bottom West Ham, things already look tough for the Welsh outfit and the decision to sack Francesco Guidolin and replace him with Bob Bradley is yet to bear fruit.

However, they have been here before, picking up just one win in 11 at one stage last term before transforming their fortunes by taking 21 points from 12 games, as they eventually went on to finish 12th in the standings.

Sunday sees them host Manchester United, a game they are 5.50 to win, with the draw 4.00 and the Red Devils 1.62.

Despite his side’s current situation, Sigurdsson says they cannot afford to panic, and instead believes they need to look to the lessons they learned last season in their bid to avoid relegation.

“We can learn from the position we were in last year,” the Icelandic international told the club’s official website. “With the position we were in last December, we managed to turn it around with some good results.

We know that when we pick up a good result we can use that and get a run going. “Last season we went on a run without a win for quite a long while.

But as soon as we won a game it gave us confidence and we kicked on from there. He added: “But you look to your next game and concentrate on that. It’s Manchester United at home next, and we must have an immediate reaction.”
