Loris-Karius-Liverpool

Loris Karius believes the competition between him and fellow goalkeeper Simon Mignolet can only be good for Liverpool.

The German arrived in the summer from Mainz and after recovering from a broken bone in his hand suffered in pre-season, seems to be winning the duel with Mignolet.

Karius has started Liverpool’s last two games in all competitions and is expected to keep his place for Saturday’s trip to Swansea.

The Reds are 1.44 to win in South Wales, with the draw 4.33 and the struggling Swans priced at 6.50.

Boss Jurgen Klopp has remained coy on publicly naming his preferred goalkeeper and despite Karius’ arrival, Mignolet’s performances had led to suggestions he may keep his spot.

Although the 23-year-old appears to have won the battle, he insists he is not taking anything for granted as he knows just one mistake could see him dropped.

The stopper believes the rivalry is good for both the goalkeepers and the team, as it means they are constantly pushing each other to improve, a situation that can only bode well for the club.

“That competition with Simon is good,” Karius told the Liverpool Echo.

“Obviously we train really well because we know we have a strong opponent. “I think it is positive for us and for the club that we know we have to be at our best to play otherwise there will be another strong keeper who is waiting.

“It is really healthy competition and we don’t have anything against each other. We try to help each other in training and we get on okay so there is no issue between us.”
