Danny Simpson admits Leicester must adapt to the new rules in place when defending set-pieces if they are to be successful again this season.
The Foxes conceded three goals from corners during Saturday’s 4-1 defeat at Manchester United and are clearly still struggling to adapt to the new directives brought in during the summer.
Officials are currently under instruction to penalise incidents of shirt-tugging and blocking, issues that have previously largely gone unpunished.
One of the features of Leicester’s success on their way to winning the Premier League last season was their ability to defend set-pieces.
To do this, like many other teams, they often stretched the rules and their experienced back four are still coming to terms with the new approach required.
Tuesday sees them given some respite from their domestic woes when they take on Porto in the Champions League, a game they are 2.25 to win, with the draw 3.20 and the Portuguese outfit 3.25.
Producing a decent defence of their Premier League crown remains the main goal for Claudio Ranieiri’s men though and Simpson admits they need to start adapting to the law changes if they are to challenge again.
“I have to be careful what I say,” he said. “It is in your mind, yes, we have seen a few decisions this season. It is in your mind.
“It is something we have to learn to adapt to as players. They have changed the rules. “The way it was last season, I thought we were very good at defending set-pieces and we made it tough for the opponents.
“You have been doing that for all your career and suddenly you have got to change it, but it’s the same for everyone, it’s something we have got to work on and look at.”
