Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is confident that the club can keep hold of winger Raheem Sterling, despite reported interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
The 20-year-old is yet to sign a new contract with the Reds after a disappointing start to the current campaign.
Sterling was a key player in last season’s incredible title race as the Reds finished in second behind Manchester City in the Premier League.
Liverpool, 13.00 to win the Europa League, have had to endure a number of injury problems. Striker Daniel Sturridge has hardly played this season due to injury problems and Rodgers is under pressure to turn things around at Anfield.
Recent reports have also claimed Real Madrid are interested in Sterling, but Rodgers believes the former Queens Park Rangers youngster will stay put.
“We are trying to build something here,” said Rodgers.
“He is a real talisman for this team. He has been a great example of the progress that a lot of the players have made here. He has gone from a youth team player to one of the top young players in European football.
“The club, I am sure, will work very hard and Raheem is happy here, he loves being a Liverpool player. I am sure between them and the representatives we can get a deal done which will see him go on to continue to develop what is an exciting career.”
He added: “I will never be surprised teams will be linked with Raheem as he is such a big talent at 20, a wonderful young player, but I am quite relaxed about it.”
