Emilio Butragueno says Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in Real Madrid’s history alongside Alfredo Di Stefano after the Portuguese won the Ballon d’Or for a fifth time.

Ronaldo won the award for the best-performing football player around the world for the second year in a row and also equalled Lionel Messi’s record of five trophies.

The Portugal international played a huge part in helping Madrid to La Liga and Champions League glory in 2016-17 whilst he also moved past 600 career goals.

He is undoubtedly one of the greatest players to have graced the sport and Butragueno, who scored 123 goals for Los Blancos from 1984-1995, believes the former Manchester United forward is on par with Di Stefano.

The latter netted 216 times from just 282 games for the Spanish giants during the 1950’s and 60’s before spending two spells in charge of the team from 1982-1984 and 1990-91.

Former striker Butragueno says both Di Stefano and Ronaldo are legends of the club, reserving special praise for the recently crowned Ballon d’Or winner.

“We have to congratulate him and enjoy is with him. There is no doubt that alongside Alfredo Di Stefano, he is the most important player in Real Madrid history,” he said.

“His motivation standards are endless. So that explains everything for a player who had already won everything.”

Ronaldo will be back in action on Saturday when Madrid welcome Sevilla to the Santiago Bernabeu and the home side are firm 1.30 favourites to win, a draw is priced at 6.00 whilst the visitors are 9.00 outsiders.
