Messi yet to make Barcelona decision as his contract enters final week

While Barcelona fans may be ecstatic about the club’s transfer activities this summer, there is still a huge cloud of doubt over the availability of Lionel Messi for the new season with them he Argentine yet to sign a contract renewal.

Messi who turned 34 on Thursday will be out of contract at Barcelona and has been linked with moves away from the Camp Nou with the MLS, PSG, and the Premier League as a potential destination.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner was reported to have accepted Barcelona’s contract renewal offer with the improvements in the political situation on and off the pitch at the Camp Nou after the elections earlier in the year but the player’s representative has denied any agreement or even an official offer from the club.

Meanwhile, Barcelona is hopeful of a short-term agreement with the player despite the number of interest from abroad.

Barcelona has brought in players into the squad this summer after signing Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia from Manchester City in the Premier League, they also brought in Emerson Royal from Real Betis recently.

Furthermore, Barcelona has also brought in the Netherlands forward Memphis Depay on a 2-year deal from Lyon. The forward was brought in on a free transfer after running down his contract with the French Ligue 1 side.

The former Manchester United forward who is currently with the Netherlands national team at the Euros where they have moved to the round of 16 scored 76 goals in 178 games at Lyon.

2020/2021 Copa Del Rey champions finished third in the 2020/2021 La Liga season with a lot of criticism for the inconsistency of Ronald Koeman’s side especially having failed to go past the round sixteen stages of the UEFA Champions League.
