Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti insists that he is not on his way to Premier League to link up with Arsenal, despite being heavily linked throughout the summer.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been in the market to try and find an established number one for the past couple of seasons but struggled to find someone of the right quality.

Marchetti has emerged as a top target for the French boss after standing out as one of the top stoppers in Serie A since joining the Rome club from Cagliari in 2011.

It is understood that Wenger made an approach for the Italy international while he was still with Cagliari, although he opted to stay in his homeland.

The 30-year-old has just returned from international duty with Italy at the Confederations Cup and insists that he has not heard of any approach made by the Premier League side.

The north London club are also believed to be looking at QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar who is looking for a way out of the relegated side.

Marchetti said: “I know nothing about Arsenal.

“I’m having a holiday and only thinking about relaxing.

“And then there is the president, who knows what to do.”
