Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon insists he will carry on playing as long as he can perform to the highest level.
The 37-year-old began his career with Parma back in 1995 before moving to Turin in 2001 and he has remained loyal to the Old Lady ever since.
The Carrara-born custodian has made more than 400 appearances for Juve while winning 147 caps for the Italy national side and claiming the World Cup back in 2006.
He has captained the Azzurri since 2011 and continues to put in superb performances between the posts for both club and country despite his advancing years.
There has been much speculation as to when he might finally hang up his gloves but, with Juve set to claim a fourth straight Serie A title and 1-0 up on Monaco after Tuesday’s champions League quarter-final first leg, he seems as keen as ever to go on, as long as the body is willing.
“At the first sign of slipping, I would be the first to bow out,” he said. “But why bid farewell to football if you are playing well?
“I think one should stop playing when you go on to the field and see that you are no longer the same person.”
Juve are 12 points clear at the top of the Italian top-flight standings and face Lazio on Saturday, with victory over the Rome outfit seeing them put more than one hand on the trophy.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side can be backed at 1.91 to beat the Romans who are on offer at 4.00 to take all three points from the Juventus Stadium.
