Kasper Schmeichel has urged his Leicester City team-mates to remain focused on the pitch as they continue their season-long battle with relegation.

The Foxes looked dead and buried just a few weeks ago as they were rooted to the foot of the Premier League table and seemed incapable of winning a match.

But they have now secured back-to-back top-flight victories, with a 2-1 success over West Ham before last weekend’s thrilling 3-2 triumph against West Brom at the Hawthorns.

The East Midlanders are still bottom of the standings but are now just three points from safety and with a game in hand on three of their rivals and two in hand on Queens Park Rangers and Aston Villa.

Next up for Nigel Pearson’s charges is the visit of Swansea on Saturday before a massive trip to Turf Moor to face fellow strugglers Burnley on April 25.

With Chelsea to follow after the Clarets it is vital that Leicester (2.10 to beat Swansea) win at least one of their next two games to keep up their momentum.

A few pundits feel that the King Power Stadium outfit are now one of the favourites to beat the drop and Schmeichel admits there has never been a thought among the Leicester players that they would not remain in England’s top division.

“Maybe it’s different to the outside world, but we have no doubt in our dressing room that we have the characters and players to get us out of this situation,” he said.

But the talented goalkeeper feels that, with every match now like a final, it is no time for the players to get carried away with the hype and lose their heads in the heat of battle.

“It is all about being in control of your emotions,” he added. “You have got to play with emotion, but controlled emotion.”
