Jose Mourinho says hard work on the training ground is the only solution for his misfiring Manchester United side.

The Red Devils were beaten 3-1 by Watford on Sunday, a third successive loss after defeats to Manchester City and Feyenoord.

The Vicarage Road defeat capped a woeful eight-day period for Mourinho, the first time in 14 years he had witnessed one of his teams losing three successive games.

The Portuguese admitted the Watford defeat left him sad, but he is not ready to panic just yet. “I have this capacity of balance,” Mourinho told MUTV.

“Balance is, for me, not running around the pitch when we were winning a couple of matches and nobody sees now me being too depressed.”

Getting back onto the training field is the key for Mourinho as he seeks a solution to United’s current problems. “I’m sad. Obviously, I’m sad but, as I was telling the players, there is only one way,” he said.

“At 10:30 [on Monday morning], we have a training session and we have to be there. They have to work, they have to show themselves with a certain kind of attitude towards negative moments.”

One thing Mourinho cannot control is refereeing decisions. The United boss felt Anthony Martial was fouled in the lead-up to Watford’s first goal on Sunday.

He also claimed his side should have had a penalty in the 2-1 derby defeat against City, while a Feyenoord player appeared to be offside in the build-up to their goal in last week’s 1-0 win in the Europa League.

“The referee’s crucial mistakes are not in my control, there is nothing I can do about that,” said Mourinho.

“That is not under my control. “So we were punished by these mistakes and I can’t do anything about it.”

United are 1.70 to beat Leicester in their next game while the Red Devils are now 13.00 to win the Premier League.
