Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has tipped Andros Townsend for an England recall after his stand-out performance in the 4-1 win over Stoke City.

Townsend impressed throughout the game at Selhurst Park and he capped his display with a fine curling effort for his side’s final goal.

Pardew felt the summer signing from Newcastle had been threatening such a performance all season and he believes Sam Allardyce should reward the 25-year-old with a place in the England squad.

Townsend has 11 caps but, despite impressing in a relegated Newcastle team last term, he was not part of Roy Hodgson’s plans for Euro 2016. “Andros was sensational,” said Pardew. “He has been threatening to play like that, I hope Big Sam was watching.

“We looked solid, we are a very powerful team and that was obvious today. Powerful in the top line, powerful at set plays, and that won us the game.”

Summer signing Townsend, along with fellow new arrival Christian Benteke, impressed for Palace in the win over Stoke and Pardew feels the changes in personnel and style are now starting to take effect. “It’s difficult to change a team and change the style a bit.

It was a nice rubber stamp today,” he added. “This was the end game with what we have been trying to do and now it needs to turn into consistency.

If we can produce that level of performance more often than not we will have a good season.”

Palace are 2.50 to beat Sunderland in their next name. The Black Cats, without a win this season, are 2.88 while the draw is 3.10 at the Stadium of Light.
