Burnley midfielder Jeff Hendrick admits he is hungry to achieve success with the club following his club-record switch from Derby over the summer.
The Republic of Ireland international moved to Turf Moor for a fee believed to be in excess of £10million in August, and he has settled into life in Lancashire well, scoring one goal in four Premier League appearances.
The 24-year-old, who had spent his entire career at Derby before his summer switch, confirmed that the time was right for him to move to the Premier League and he is hungry to achieve success with Sean Dyche’s side.
“For me it was probably the right time to move on,” he said. “Eight years is a long time at a club. I’ve seen a lot of change and have a lot of good memories and a lot of bad memories as well.
“Personally I needed to move on and have a new challenge in football to keep me hungry for success and this year was the right time for me.”
Hendrick, who played every minute of Ireland’s European Championship campaign this summer, admits pitting himself against the world’s best players was also instrumental in his decision to move to Turf Moor.
He added: “When I got back to Derby I sat down with Nigel Pearson and we had a good chat and he asked me what my aspirations were after the summer.
“I said having a good summer, playing in the Euros, playing against the top teams and top players, I want to play in the Premier League.”
Hendrick is currently away on international duty, but he will be hoping to feature in the Clarets next league match against Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium on October 16.
Burnley are available at 9.00 to secure all three points in that match, while Saints are on offer at 1.36 and the draw is priced at 4.50.
